Grief & Loss:
Most people understand that grief is the reaction to any form of loss and is associated with feelings of sadness, yearning, guilt, anger, regret and heartache among many others. What is misunderstood is the way in which people grieve or how it should be handled. Grief is not a linear path but rather a transitional journey that is experienced in many different ways and is unique to each individual. When a person’s grief related thoughts are so distressing or their ability to function as a result of their loss has been severely impacted, therapy can help. Therapy can help to work through the pain of that grief, to learn how to adapt to life without their loved one and maintain a connection to the deceased while moving on with their life. Therapy encourages talking about their feelings and remembering their loved one through shared memories and group support as well as through establishing healthy coping skills for their grief.
